Valcour Island
Day
2. We left the confines of Mallets Bay, passing through the narrow gap that
was once a railroad line and headed into the main body of Champlain.
The wind was blowing solid and whitecaps were everywhere, but Lady held
firm.
We sailed most of the way to Valcour until gusts started to make us work. We decided to stop in Smuggler's Cove on the east side of Valcour. Soon after, Puff Stuff arrived as well.
It was a return visit to Smugglers for Kathie, who had cruised the lake with her Mom and Dad from age 8 to her mid teens in their Owens Cabin Cruiser. She remembers the Cove from when her Dad avoided a storm so many years ago.
Moving over to the west side with Puff Stuff, we caught up with the rest of the Fleet. The Beep and Taurus Two invited us to pull our boat side-by-side with others and helped us to do so safely.
That night we were greeted with a thunder shower that boomed suddenly, waking us up and sending a bit of fear through Lady's Captain and crew. But, we were so tired we agreed to be afraid in the morning and went back to sleep.
