Casco Bay 06 Rendezvous in Progress July 22, 2006

As I write this, the Casco Bay 06 Rendezvous is still in progress. Pictured here are a few shots from day 1. After fog burned off around 10 the weather turned beautiful until rain came in the late afternoon.

Five boats arrived on friday with a chance of another arriving today Saturday. Those here: Karamal, Magic, Y'Not, Nauti & Nice and Lady-in-Red.

While waiting for other boats to show up, Y'not and Lady-in-Red made an enjoyable trip to Perry's Eagle Island. (Perry of course is credited with discovering the North Pole). There we self-toured Admiral Perry's summer home. We also enjoyed a stroll along the walking trails where we saw beautiful flower beds that originated as early as 1915 from Perry's daughter. We were also treated to viewing lots of baby seagulls! The vistas were amazing. See sample picture below.

The return sail to Potts Harbor was excellent. As is typical in Maine, winds kick in around 2-ish.

Darker clouds formed in the late afternoon. By then 3 other boats had arrived. After launching we all gathered at the Dolphin Marina Restaurant for a good meal and great conversation. Cruise Captain Karen gave each boat the cutest little seal dolls to commemorate "Sailing with the Seals" on Casco Bay. The clouds opened up to downpours. By then, our meal was served. By the time we were done, the rain had stopped for the time being.

A splended time was had by all!

I'll report more later. Weather should be ok for today, we hope! Sunday however looks yucky. We'll see.
