Meeting called to order at 11:45p.m.Introductions, experiences and stories shared

 

Commodore’s Comments – Special thanks to Bill Brock for the use of his company’s office for the meeting. Also to Paul Seeberg for his work on the Website. Jack wanted to let everyone know there is a message from the Commodore on the site.

 

Review of Previous Minutes – The reading of the minutes from December 9, 2006 was waived by Barbara Garland, seconded by Al Hill and passed by acclamation.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Tony DiStefano was absent. Jack reported that we have $1170.53 and 40 new/renewal members.

 

Old Business

ü      Club Buttons - Karen Hill said that buttons would be ready for the first rendezvous if not for the April meeting. Paul Seeberg showed us a Website where you can make buttons – cafeexpress.com

ü      Burgees – We have plenty of burgees. However, “Rear Commodore” and “Mother Hen” flags are needed. Harry Sechman will email Tony a Website to order the “Rear Commodore” flag. The “Mother Hen” flag will be designed by Kathy Dieffenbach

ü      By-Laws – Change in By-Law Articles need to be updated on the Website.

ü      Member at Large – Dan Dobbins was voted by the members at the December meeting to be a Member at Large. He accepted the position.

 

 

 

New Business

 

ü      Meeting Changes - It was decided that we would change the dates of the next two meetings. February 18th’s meeting would change to February 24th providing the Savin Hill Yacht Club is available. April 1st’s meeting would be changed to March 30th . Jack will ask Vanessa and Jim if we could have it at there home.

ü       

ü      Workshops – There will be at least one workshop held at each NETS meeting providing there is a presenter. It was suggested that we put the workshops in the “Members Only” section on the Website. A radio and communications workshop was recommended for February’s meeting.

 

ü      Website – Many suggestions and ideas discussed

Ø      Members would like to add a resource page. It was suggested that it could be titled, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” in regards to vendors, etc. Ken Levitt said he would give Paul Seeberg (Web Master) some suggestions.

Ø      A few members talked about sailing books that they enjoyed and/or found helpful. A book review page was suggested.

Ø      Barbara Garland lent some books and charts to interested members. Some thought a lending library on the Website would be a good idea.

Ø      Herb Clifford asked about putting a survey on the Website to find out, for example, what workshops members would be interested in.

Ø      Yahoo offers the ability to host group chat rooms. Mark Starin made a motion to put this link on the NETS Website with an option to opt out. It was seconded by Roger Jones and passed by acclamation.

 

ü      Members Only – Karen Hill made a motion to change the Website password to “galley”. Rani Chadowitz seconded it.

 

ü      Events – Rani Chadowitz mentioned that there was an Antique & Classic Boat Festival being held in August in Salem, MA as well as a Wooden Boat Show in Portland.

 

 

 

 

 

ü      Magazines

 

Ø      Jack Chadowitz mentioned that he had been in contact with the editor of “The Good Old Boat Magazine”. They are willing to send us some complimentary copies in the hopes that they may get some subscribers.

Ø      Loyd Dussault told us that “Points East” is a free sailing publication.

 

ü      Organizations

Ø      Barbara Garland recommended the Trailer Sailors Association.

Ø      Dan Lacey mentioned that the Maine Island Trailer Association was looking for representatives from other associations. Dan said he would represent NETS.

Motion to Adjourn – Ken Levitt made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 3:00 p.m. Herb Clifford seconded it, and was passed by acclamation.
